As part of the Estes-Greensboro roundabout project, two Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons (PHBs) have been installed along N Greensboro Street at Williams Street and at Oak Avenue.
These signals control the flow of traffic to create dedicated phase for people crossing the street. Research by the FHWA has shown that PHBs reduce total crashes by 19% and crashes with pedestrians by 69%. The graphic here shows the phasing operations of these pedestrian hybrid beacon, please note that drivers are expected to stop during the steady red phase (#4) but may proceed during the flashing red phase (#5) once people have cleared the crosswalk.
Please be on the lookout for kids walking to and from school!
