Town Holiday Service Changes

Town of Carrboro government offices will be closed in observance of the town holiday on Friday, April 2. Residents who normally receive solid waste collection on Friday will be serviced on Monday, April 5. Orange County Solid Waste Management reports no changes to curbside recycling collection on Friday.

Summer Apprenticeship Opportunity in the Arts

The Carrboro Arts Committee is offering an award of up to $1,000 to assist emerging young artists in developing their talent through a summer apprenticeship.  A total of three (3) apprenticeships are available.

Purpose:
To encourage and support emerging young artists who are residents of Carrboro by facilitating a summer apprenticeship with an Orange County artist or arts organization. 

Eligibility:
Apprenticeships are available to rising high school juniors and seniors, graduating seniors, as well as college students and those who have graduated from college within the past year.

Applicants must live in Carrboro. Applicants must have an interest in the arts (visual arts, performing arts, arts administration, etc.) and have secured an apprenticeship with an Orange County artist or arts organization. The apprenticeship must be for at least 15 hours a week for at least 5 weeks. Students who may need assistance finding a local artist or arts organization may contact arts@townofcarrboro.org

Apprenticeships may be remote or in-person. Approved COVID protocols that follow local, state, and national guidelines must be submitted.

Carrboro Connects: Community Workshop 2 Recap

CARRBORO, NC -- More than 100 people from across Carrboro came together on Thursday, March 18, 2021, for a bilingual evening of virtual community-building, learning, and idea-sharing.

Despite the simultaneous tornado watch, workshop participants came engaged and excited to weigh in on Carrboro Connects, the Town’s first comprehensive plan. The evening featured musical performances, local history, perspectives from new and long-time Carrboro residents, and deep dives on plan topics in smaller breakout groups. Carrboro Recruiting for OWASA Board Member

The Town of Carrboro is recruiting for a Carrboro representative to serve as Board Member of the Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA). 

The position will become available upon the completion of a term held by Robert Morgan that is set to expire on June 30, 2021. The Carrboro Town Council will consider applicants for appointment in June 2021.

Meeting of the Minds

Meeting of the Minds Affordable Housing Panel Discussion + Q&A

Meeting of the Minds will host a virtual, communitywide Affordable Housing Panel Discussion and Q&A on Monday, April 12, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The discussion will center on the housing needs of people living at 30% AMI and below.

Chapel Hill Town Council Member Tai Huynh will serve as moderator. Panelists will include Donna Carrington, Ronald Carnes, Delores Bailey, Corey Root and Jackie Thompson. Panelists represent lived experience with homelessness, non-profit + service-provider leadership, community advocacy and local government, and have worked to address the affordable housing crisis in our community. 

Meeting of the Minds is a collaboration among the Community Empowerment Fund (CEF), Inter-Faith Council for Social Service, and a group of empowered community members promoting affordable housing, accessible transportation, better access to healthcare and health insurance, and employment. This year, Meeting of the Minds has worked to elevate the affordable housing needs of our Members living at 30% AMI and below. The group hosted a virtual screening of Affordable Housing: The Musical in February and an affordable housing advocacy training in March.
