[ARCHIVED] 2nd Annual Joint Creek Clean-Up

Joint Cleanup 1

The towns of Carrboro and Chapel Hill are inviting residents and businesses to help clean our urban streams this March.

Due to the public health safety concerns, we are not leading organized groups for the cleanup effort this year. Families and pods are encouraged to participate in smaller litter cleanup groups.

Joining the challenge is easy, just follow these steps:

  1. Read the "Stay Safe" tips https://www.townofchapelhill.org/Home/ShowDocument?id=48406
  2. Pick a stream or area with trash and clean it up
  3. Take pictures
  4. Fill out the Litter Cleanup Data Sheet https://arcg.is/1irWqe on Survey123
  5. Tag us on social media @CarrboroTownGov and @ChapelHillGov

Last year, participants picked up 5,280 pounds of trash! Help us beat that number this year.

Participants can enter to win prizes by completing the Litter Cleanup Data Sheet https://arcg.is/1irWqe on Survey123. The data sheet will be open to the public from March 13 to April 17. Prizes include reusable straws, cloth grocery bags, water bottles, and more!

Litter in a stream does not always start at the streambank, but it will end up there. If it is on the ground, chances are that it will end up in our local streams and creeks. By cleaning up trash around your neighborhood or business, you are helping protect our local waterways from pollution.

All trash should be bagged and put into your trash can. If you have more trash than will fit in your trash can, take it to one of the Waste and Recycling Centers http://orangecountync.gov/1149/Waste-Recycling-Centers:

  • 1514 Eubanks Rd in Chapel Hill or
  •  1616 Ferguson Rd in Chapel Hill
