CARRBORO, N.C. – On Friday, Feb.12, 2021, at 3:04 a.m., members of the Carrboro Fire Rescue Department responded to the 200 block of Cedarwood Lane, for the report of a smoke coming from the roof of a residence.
Responding fire crews arrived in just over five minutes and found a six-unit townhome with smoke and flames emitting through the roof at the rear of a middle unit. Fire crews immediately initiated a fire attack in the attic and along the roofline. The fire was brought under control in approximately 20 after arriving. Fire crews were able to contain the fire to the original townhome without allowing the fire to extend into neighboring residences that share a common attic. Fire damage was limited to the attic, roof, a second floor bedroom, and water damage on the first and second floor. Initial damage estimates are approximately $175,000.
There were no civilian or firefighter injuries due to the fire. The residence was deemed uninhabitable. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Carrboro Fire Rescue Department with assistance from the White Cross Fire Department. Carrboro Fire Rescue received assistance at the scene from Chapel Hill, White Cross and North Chatham Fire Departments. North Chatham Fire Department provided coverage to the Town of Carrboro for the duration of the fire.
