Meet the Designers Event
The public is invited to meet the designers for the 203 Project, a public center-library planned for 203 S. Greensboro St.
The building will house the Orange County Southern Branch Library; Town of Carrboro Recreation, Parks and Cultural Resources Department; the Orange County Skills Development Center; Virtual Justice Center; WCOM Radio; Teen Center and more. The site is currently a town parking lot across from Open Eye Cafe.
The Carrboro Town Council approved on Tuesday, Nov. 17, the schematic design and authorized the $25.8 million (shared jointly by the Town and Orange County) project to proceed with the next steps of the development process including permitting. The design reflects community input previously received in the project’s early phase in 2018 while framing new and updated synergies of the building users.

Transgender Day of Remembrance
Today (Friday, Nov. 20) is Transgender Day of Remembrance in the Town of Carrboro, proclaimed by Mayor Lydia Lavelle.
Mayor Lavelle asks all residents to reflect on the challenges facing the transgender members of our community, and work to ensure that social, cultural and legislative progress continues to be made so that all people will one day be able to safely live as their full and true selves.
According to a 2018 report released by the American Academy of Pediatrics, 50.8% of transgender male youth, 41.8% of non-binary youth, and 29.9% of transgender female youth have attempted suicide. United States has one of the highest rates of murder of transgender people, particularly for women of color; in 2019 at least 27 transgender people were killed as a result of hate, fear, and violent attacks; and sadly, 2020 has already seen at least 32 persons killed, the majority of which were Black and Latinx.

Care to Share Day
Mayor Lydia Lavelle proclaimed Thursday, Nov. 19, as Care to Share Day to help raise funds for the Care to Share bill-assistance program administered by OWASA and the Inter-Faith Council for Social Service.

Thanksgiving Holiday Trash Collection Schedule
Due to the holiday, trash collections are two days early the week of Thanksgiving.
- Wednesday’s trash route will be collected on Monday, Nov. 23
- Thursday’s trash route will be collected on Tuesday, Nov. 24
- Friday’s trash route will be collected on Wednesday, Nov. 25.
There will be no yard waste collected the week of Thanksgiving.
Yard Waste and Loose Leaves will not be collected Thanksgiving week (Nov. 23-27).
