The Town of Carrboro is pleased to announce the selection of Catherine Lazorko as communications manager.
The communications manager leads public communication strategies including crisis communications, media relations and community engagement.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve my hometown of Carrboro in this role,” Lazorko said. “I look forward to listening to residents, learning about community priorities and initiatives, and representing the Town of Carrboro as we move through this challenging time.”
Lazorko brings a wealth of experience in the public sector in local government and higher education. She has served as communications manager for the Town of Chapel Hill and public information officer for the City of Las Cruces, N.M. Her work in higher education includes communications director positions at the NC State University College of Design and UNC School of Information and Library Science. She began her career covering news and border issues as a reporter for the El Paso Times.
Lazorko has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Texas at El Paso and a master’s degree in English with an emphasis in rhetoric and professional communication from New Mexico State University. Additionally, she holds the designation of Certified Public Communicator, the field’s top certification. She is former president of the NC City & County Communicators (NC3C), a frequent blog contributor to the Community Engagement Learning Exchange at the UNC School of Government, and has won numerous state and national communications awards.
Her first day at the Town of Carrboro will be June 2.
