Economic Development - Here in Carrboro we support the business community, with a special emphasis on locally owned businesses, by being the hub of information that businesses need to succeed. The Town has three different revolving loan programs that are available to new and existing Carrboro businesses. The loan programs promote and support job creation, business retention, capital needs, façade improvements and energy efficiency. The ECD Director also staffs the Arts Committee which is an important Economic Development tool for the Town. Economic and Community Development Department strives to provide a high level of customer service and one on one contact with the business community, so please feel free to contact Annette D. Lafferty, ECD Director, with any of your economic development questions.
Community Development – Carrboro is also a Town focused on its people. We are dedicated to providing opportunities for safe, decent, and healthy lives for all of our citizens. The ability to provide affordable housing for people who work in all sectors of the Town’s economy is vital to achieving this goal. In 2014, Carrboro’s Affordable Housing Task Force introduced a comprehensive strategy to guide the Town’s effort in ensuring suitable housing opportunities for all in Carrboro. For questions on affordable housing, please contact Nate Broman-Fulks, Assistant to the Town Manager.
Human Services – Carrboro cares about all its Citizens including the disadvantaged and disabled. The Town makes annual appropriations for non-profits agencies that provide services to vulnerable populations, i.e. children, seniors, physically and mentally disabled, homeless, and other at risk individuals. The Town accepts applications from non-profits on an annual basis. See the Human Services link to the left for more details on how to apply for funding.
