5:00 t shirt designKitty Box & the Johnnys

Kitty Box & the Johnnys-Taz Halloween's original retro country band "Kitty Box & the Johnnys" was born outa heartache with booze bein' poured into the gapin' wounds - just like any real, honest country song. There have been many wonderful "Johnnys" throughout the 9 years since the band's beginnin's, but this one seems to have just the right amount of commitment, love, honor, respect & INdecency to keep it twixt the lines & on the road. We DO swerve offa the beaten path now & again, though, which is just where we like it, laughin' all the way, driven to tears, sometimes. We will whisper 'til ya' strain & then POP! outa the bushes hollerin' BOO! atcha. And we WILL make Ya' "lala" with us! Did I say "make"? Many have "lala'd" willingly & with sauce! Band members are : Kitty Box (Taz) Vocals & Geetars & Lawt Chil's!" Marty Johnson : Bass & Vocals & "Digs!" Jeff Lindsey : Drums & Vocals & "Giggities!" Lou Gagliano : Vocals & Geetars & "Wizards!"

1:00t shirt design Chocolate Martini Therapy

Chocolate Martini Therapy- Louise Bendall (of Watermelon Sugar) and Elizabeth Freeman (of Apple Chill Cloggers, & Piedmont Allstars) have so much fun playing music together that they figured they might as well make it official and form "a band." After performing together on several occasions, Elizabeth realized Louise had never tried a chocolate martini and quickly rectified the situation. Louise oh so very much enjoyed her first chocolate martini. And voila, a band name.

3:00 t shirt design Eric Sommer- Roots/Pop guitar playing (alt. web page)

In the 80's Eric Sommer broke out of the Boston folk music scene with a mixture of rootspure, fingerstyle acoustic guitar and new wave pop, a blurred combination of Nick Lowe, The Cars and Spider John Koerner influences.

3:15 The Tender Fruit

The Tender Fruit grows deep in the sweltering streets of central NC where its tenuous songs ring prosaic, full-tinny & true. It is the newest musical incarnation of Christy Smith, a NC native who has lent her voice and talents to several other prestigious projects over the past few years (Nola, Bon Iver, Megafaun). The songs themselves blend the apocalyptic with the supernal. Layered vocals billow effortlessly around the crude, earth-bound drum beats and stilted guitar lines that court them. Christy performs these songs with drummer/vocalist/jeweler Ms. Staci Sawyer.

4:15 Battle Not With Monsters

Battle Not With Monsters is a high energy duet out of Durham, NC performing modern, alternative, acoustic folk rock. Singer-songwriters Patrick Blackburn and Philip Hollingsworth have been collaborating musically for over ten years. Blackburn's sullen, emotional vocal style is complimented by the raw, high energy vocals of Hollingsworth as the duo performs songs that continually focus on providing meaningful lyrics that express the creative and recreative nature of artistic expression.

5:30 The Pagan Hellcats

The Pagan Hellcats- Thanks to Chris Parker and The Independent for the nice review 12/31/08: "...this quartet relies on the basics - well-written songs, beguiling, hook-laden arrangements and fine vocals. Guitarists Dave Rutter and Diane Rodelli trade songs and lead vocals, harmonizing over Americana that ranges from folk-blues to ragged barroom rock....songcraft more enduring than colorful dress-up."

6:30Jo Gore and The Alternative

Jo Gore and the Alternative- Jo and Bo found a common musical ground listening to the classic blues, soul, rock, jazz, and folk music of the 50's and the 60's along with current genres of today. Their style is a refreshing mix of new and old that ranges from slow melancholy musings to upbeat in-your-face dance music. Bo writes the music and lyrics about issues that are important to both he and Jo. Issue's like standing up for one's belief's, life's regrets, home, family, war, the environment, relationships..etc. Helping bring the songs to life are their talented band mates, Steven Coon (electric guitar), Leon LB (bass) and Bakru Hunsel (drums).

3:00 The Crowd Scene- Primarily the brainchild of bassist Anne Rogers and guitarist Grahame Davies, The Crowd Scene is a walking encyclopedia of pop hooks and melodies from both sides of the Atlantic. Sometimes it's the brainy pop of 10CC or the quirky cleverness of Squeeze, sometimes it's the sweeter confections of Neil Finn, sometimes it's Brian Wilson's soaring Pet Sounds harmonies and the moody reflections of Jellyfish.

6:00 Acoustic Garage - Alternative Folk, Bluegrass & Rock (alt. web page)

Birds and Arrows- "Birds and Arrows, a husband/wife duo from NC. 4:15 Radio Silent Auction

Radio Silent Auction- (RSA) emerged in early 2008 on a mutual vision to create independent rock music that is original, genuine and dynamic. RSA is made up of four experienced musicians from the mid-Atlantic local music scenes in Raleigh and Asheville NC, Richmond VA and Washington DC. RSA's sound is defined as a blend of alternative and classic rock with tones of indie, blues and pop. A solid groove with dirty riffs and a gritty edge. Two guitars provide balanced tone and contrast out in front of a rhythm section that establishes a simple but purposeful presence. Vocals are raspy and soulful, abandoned and incensed, resilient, meaningful and coercive.

6:15 The Alcazar Hotel

The Alcazar Hotel is an original Rock & Roll band based out of Chapel Hill. Led by Will Dawson on bass, it features Edward Stanley on guitar and Brad Porter on drums. 2:15 Taz Holloween & Stu Cole- Fret & furrowed brow- tongue in cheek

Taz Holloween & Stu Cole bonded many years ago, over a shared birthdate, discovered when Taz carded Stu @ The Hardback.(Stu argues that it was @ the Pyewacket) Both feeling like the black sheep siblings, they have bonded over music, whiskey & inside jokes throughout the years.
Stu is one of the founding members of the much loved Chicken Wire Gang & has gone on to many other projects including The Squirrel Nut Zippers, The Meek, Joe's Tree Service & New Town Drunks.
Taz has sung her own retro Jazzy set with Robert Griffin & Stu for years & still performs her "one woman with a snake, belly dancer & bodyguard" aka "The Carnival Of Nightmares" which has been a work in progress since about 1984. She sings backup with Hobex, Dexter Romweber, Charles Pettee & many others.
Stu has a guitar style unlike any other save for MAYBE a touch of Willie Nelson's hesitations which snakes & accentuates just right Taz & Stu's wailin', whispers & moans. They will be performing what Taz has dubbed "Fret & Furrowed Brow with Tongue in Cheek" tunes; both original & some faves of others. Taz also will be performing later that day with Kitty Box & the Johnnys.

4:15 Tim Smith Band

Tim Smith Band- After more than a decade, this North Carolina band formerly called The Jumpstarts is still cooking up a deliciously original blend of great music. Based in traditional 1950s style Jamaican ska and reggae, the group stirs in a heavy helping of jazz with a sampling of gospel and blues. Seasoned with soul and a dash of funk, this concoction really simmers. Like an old family recipe passed along from one generation to the next, the dish of a band only gets better with time.
